Any gift of any items on the Wish List is greatly needed
and appreciated!
We utilize various tools and materials to facilitate our goals in helping our special needs students accomplish success. Through time, many of these items need to be replaced, mainly as a result of the harsh summer sun. It would be greatly beneficial to our program and very much appreciated if anyone reading this would like to help out with either funds to use toward these items or by simply providing the items to us directly.
We are always in need of Volunteers who love horses and kids. There are opportunities to lead the horses, groom, muck, and any other miscellaneous chores that might come up, such as spreading wood chips in the stalls, etc. This is a great opportunity to destress and be with these beautiful creatures or help with the special needs riders.
We use sensory balls regularly with our special needs students. These balls are usually 2 1/2" to 5" diameter balls of various colors, textures, and densities. Their design and use helps us to stimulate the nerves in the palms of the hands and help strengthen the tendons and muscles in the hands and arms. As a result of the work we do with sensory balls and other work during the therapeutic riding sessions, we are able to help our students overcome many of their sensory issues and improve upper body coordination.
We utilize pvc pipe placed in bases striped in the primary colors and the color purple in the arenas to mark obstacles. Using these fun markers helps the students improve their hand to eye coordination and spatial perception. The exercises they do while utilizing these poles also help strengthen and improve their upper body and lower body coordination. At the end of each session, the student is also exercising critical thinking while figuring out how to take colored rings off of the poles as part of clean-up at the end of the lesson.
